Origami Pool House
CBA Architecture engaged Miglic MacLeod to provide structural design services for Origami Pool House: a brand-new enclosure over an existing in-ground concrete pool.
The 115-square-metre pavilion was designed with three sides of glass doors opening up into the gardens, with raised roofing at one end for enhanced natural lighting.
The structural design included:
- A new single-storey steel and timber-framed pool house over an existing in-ground concrete pool, adjacent to an existing tennis court
- A new ground-floor structure with suspended concrete slabs with new strip footings, supported by bored piers for founding below the existing pool shell excavation
- External works for the timber deck and the abutment to the existing brick pool services building.
Given the complexity of the roof design and associated elements, our engineers revisited the concept plans as required in collaboration with the architects.
Miglic MacLeod provided detailed design and concept sketch plans and options where appropriate. We also prepared a brief for the geotechnical engineer to undertake a site geotechnical investigation and report.
By establishing a relationship of trust and responsiveness with our client, Miglic MacLeod ensured the structural feasibility and integrity of their design proposal.
