Doveton College

Miglic MacLeod provided full structural and civil consulting engineering services for the Doveton College regeneration project. 

The purpose of the project was to merge two primary schools and one secondary school into a single facility aimed at providing education and support services to children of all ages.

The final result was a cutting-edge, integrated prep to secondary learning facility that met the client’s requirement as a space to provide education and community support services for children from birth to early adulthood.

Stages one and two of the projects consisted of:

• Learning and specialist buildings
• Administration/community support services building
• Hardcourt gymnasium
• State-of-the-art soccer field
• Large linked courtyard with architecturally-impressive agora roof
• Extensive civil works
• Landscaping over the 30,000 square metre site.

Miglic MacLeod provided simple and effective engineering solutions for the project, including a range of single- and double-storey buildings designed with a mix of steel, timber and concrete structures. 

Challenges of the project included negotiating difficult ground conditions, maintaining large existing trees, and managing overland flows through the tight and sloping site. We worked with the client and architect to create a unique and versatile indoor/outdoor flow between the buildings enclosed by a structurally challenging steel roof.
