Miglic MacLeod was engaged to deliver structural and civil design services for the subdivision of a site on Kooyong Road in South Yarra with significant cultural history.
Armadale House is a two-storey brick and stucco Italianate trophy home with a cast iron balcony veranda. It was built in 1876 by James Munro, the 15thPremier of Victoria (1890 –1892).
The suburb of Armadale in Melbourne takes its name from the house.
With this significant cultural heritage, Miglic Macleod knew the design process would include a number of challenges.
The redesign of the Heritage Wing required considerations for structural feasibility and adaptive reuse, and also demanded the preservation of its significant heritage value.
