Koulouris Residence
Working alongside architects B.E Architecture, Miglic MacLeod provided structural and civil engineering services for the renovation of Koulouris Residence in Albert Park, which included a brand new two-storey rear extension.
From a structural perspective there were several considerations. Renovations had to take into account the existing building structure and the associated heritage elements, including creating new openings through existing walls.
Our engineers advised on the condition of the existing structure, and the feasibility of the architects' proposed renovations within these parameters.
The rear extension housed an in-ground swimming pool and showering facilities. It was built from scratch using reinforced block and reinforced concrete.
Retention systems for basement construction used cantilevered concrete solider piles and sprayed concrete infill walls for wet basement construction since it was sufficiently separated from adjacent residences. External structural works also included courtyards, gates and a new entry.
From a civil perspective, Miglic MacLeod was required to review the existing civil implications of the schematic design and suggest options where appropriate.
Civil design works included:
- All external pavements for the site
- Site surface drainage, including the collection of down pipe discharge
- Assisting with drainage of upper/suspended courtyards and terraces
- Basement-level seepage drainage works including sizing of pumping requirements
- Stormwater drainage infrastructure for the site connected to Council-nominated legal point of discharge.
