Merchiston Hall

Merchiston Hall was built in 1856 in Geelong, Victoria as a residence for local businessman and politician, James Cowie. It was designed by local architects Backhouse and Reynolds to take advantage of views over Corio Bay and the newly-established Botanic Gardens.

Our services included:

  • Undertaking a site investigation to review the existing state of the building
  • Researching and understanding the heritage value of the property
  • Assessing the structural condition of affected areas
  • Advising on the necessary structural works for its conservation
  • Preparing a structural assessment report outlining advice for conservation, retention and improvement to the sensitive heritage structure
  • Structural design of the remedial works.

Miglic MacLeod provided comprehensive assessment and advice through a deep understanding of local significance and heritage value.
